NINTH LINEAGE _____
.

The last of the complex lineages to be discussed here derive from the ten Chinese bishops who, beginning in April 1958, consecrated dozens of independent bishops for the Chinese Catholics' Patriotic Association (later re-named the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association).

In assembling this chart I am especially grateful for the information, and encouragement, received from Mr. Charles N. Bransom, Jr., of Mango, Florida, and from Sr. Betty Ann Maheu, M.M., of the Holy Spirit Study Centre in Hong Kong, China, both having unparalleled knowledge of the Chinese hierarchy.

I also recommend to readers the outstanding Bibliography on the Church in China compiled by Rev. Vincent Lapomarda, SJ.

To be able to understand this "Patriotic" lineage one must first learn something about the history of Catholicism in China, especially in this century. Below are, in three segments, a summary of what lead up to the "Patriotic" bishops.
